It’s all cricket at College!

More than 30 students from our Shiney Row Campus and Bede Centre have battled it out to ‘run-up’ a fun afternoon of cricket.

A number of international learners from a range of our courses including Business and Computing as well as adult learners from Access and Pre-Access courses took part.

Ros Jackson, lecturer at City of Sunderland College, said: “Sport is a great way to bring groups of people together develop real team spirit as well as a little healthy competition!

“Our international learners had expressed their love of cricket and wanted an opportunity to host a series of matches so we could all play together and hopefully pick up some tips!

“It’s safe to say that the umpire decisions were hotly contested during what was a competitive match and we were delighted to have a large crowd of supporters made up of college students and staff.”

The team from the College’s Bede Centre triumphed in the end, winning by 65 runs for 5 wickets. Shiney Row scored 64 for 9 wickets.

Ros added: “Everyone was certainly in a sporting mood as after we’d finished playing cricket, the teams joined forces with the spectators for a game of rounders.

“The matches created an opportunity for our students to socialise and work as part of a team which will help to boost their skills both in and out of the classroom in the future.”
