County Cup Win for City of Sunderland College

Our Football Development Centre is celebrating after its recent success at the County Cup Final.

The City of Sunderland College U18 squad of 18 talented footballers walked away with the bragging rights after beating East Durham College 4 – 2 in the final of the Albert Knox Trophy!

It was a challenging game, yet once again our lads came out on top.

Head Coach, John Gamble, said: “I’ve been really pleased with the performances this year and this trophy is the icing on the cake.

The FDC in action during the Albert Knox Trophy“City of Sunderland College’s Football Development Centre offers an excellent package of first class education teamed with facilities and networks to help young footballers realise their potential.”

Earlier this year, we celebrated the news that our under 19s football team had won the British Colleges National League in the North East division. The team were crowned the winners after a fantastic season, having picked up 42 points across 14 games and remaining unbeaten across the region.

The FDC was launched in 2008 with the aim to improve the skills of talented new footballers. The facilities at the College’s Bede Centre offer a unique partnership between the College, Sunderland AFC and Northern League club Sunderland RCA FC.

The FDC combines elite football training and coaching with the high quality education, already provided at the College, which last year received an excellent Ofsted report.
