‘Get a job in six weeks’ courses are back
Free courses to help jobseekers into employment have been re-launched by Sunderland College following a successful first term.
The RI:SE (Real Impact: Skills for Employment) courses train out-of-work adults in the key skills needed by businesses in the area which are currently recruiting.
First launched in January the courses have already trained nearly 500 out of work adults and enrolment for the new courses has now opened.
Paul Stafford, employer liaison manager at Sunderland College, said: “The Skills for Jobs Courses have been incredibly successful in helping jobseekers back into work.
“There are certain business sectors that are always recruiting, but they need people who can do the work well. We’re urging jobseekers to come forward and learn the skills to help them on the path to employment.”
In a recent survey of those who took part in the January courses over 55% had since found a job.
Paul said: “The College has long-established relationships with many of the region’s biggest employers so we are well-placed to know precisely what skills they need their workforces to have.
“Working in consultation with employers, our courses have been designed to train people, in up to six weeks, with the key skills they need to work effectively in these industries.”
As well as providing jobseekers with the skills needed to find work the college also takes a practical approach to helping people find jobs.
Everyone enrolled on one of the RI:SE courses is also coached on interview techniques, effective job search and other related skills.
The college’s Employment and Pre-Employment centre has a dedicated job club available to all those seeking work.
Paul said: “These courses have already had a really positive affect on peoples’ lives.
“It’s not just about giving them skills, we want them to leave with a job to go to, to become employed and put everything they’ve learnt to good use.
“The fact that out of 269 survey respondents, 156 had progressed into employment as a result training is fantastic news for everyone involved.”
Going on a RI:SE course does not affect benefit payments and is open to anyone looking for work and eligible to work in the UK.
Courses are free for anyone who is currently unemployed. For more information email: email@example.com or call 0191 5116478.
