Supported learning department students from Sunderland College took part in a five-a-side football tournament aimed at people with learning difficulties.
Two squads of eight students and teachers entered the tournament, which was held at Farnacres, Beggars Wood Park, Lobley Hill, Gateshead, on Thursday, May 31.
Graeme Wanless, lecturer at supported learning, Sunderland College, said: “All the students had a fantastic time, despite the downpours. I don’t think they could’ve enjoyed it any more.
“The students had all been excited in the weeks leading up to it. They helped to organise it by putting the teams together and finding out who was interested so everyone who wanted to got to play.
“The tournament didn’t disappoint either. On the day both of our teams scored a few goals, won a game drew a game and lost a couple.
“Rutherford Football club organised it and they hope to have one every six months and have said we’ll definitely go back.”
All the students were presented with a medal to say they had taken part in the tournament.
