Students share results through Skype
Students at Sunderland College got to see the look on the faces of far-away family and friends as they shared their A Level results today.
The college installed a Skype booth at its St Peter’s campus and happy students were able to video call relatives to tell them their good news.
Sunderland College is committed to giving young people the best student experience possible – right down to results day.
It is another record year for the college with an overall pass rate of 99 per cent, the fourth consecutive year the college has achieved this. In 21 subjects the pass rate was 100%.
John Rushworth, director of Sixth Form Centres, was on hand to congratulate students. He said: “This year’s pass rates are exceptionally high, and we are immensely proud of our A Level students.
“Our students have worked incredibly hard and it is fantastic to see the results of all that effort. We like to go that extra mile so that’s why we invited them to share the news with family who can’t be here today.”
Ruhi Bhugra, 18, was thrilled to receive As in Physics, Maths and Chemistry and a B in Biology and now plans on going to study to become a doctor. She said: “Being able to video call my relatives back in India was fantastic. It is such a special day I’m glad they could be part of it.
“I have had a fantastic time at Sunderland College and now look forward to starting university in September.”
It is expected more than 850 students will now progress on to university, including top universities Durham and Newcastle where they will study subjects including medicine, law and engineering.
John said: “We are here to assist students in fulfilling their ambitions. Our aim is to help all our students to achieve the best that they can through fantastic support and quality teaching.
“This is especially important at a time when competition for jobs and university places is so fierce.
“As always we are now looking to the future. Enrolment for the new term has now started and with a programme of investment expected at the college within the next 12 months, students who choose to study here have an exciting future ahead of them.”
