Ask Anne anything

Students with ambitions to be the next Jeremy Paxman or David Dimbleby got the chance to test their skills at an ‘Ask Anything’ event with new Sunderland College Principal, Anne Isherwood.

In true Question Time style, Anne visited each of the college’s five campuses to answer the questions put to her by a panel of students.

Anne was asked a range of questions from ‘what made her choose to move to the college’, to requests for the pudding recipes from the College canteen – declared by one pupil as being ‘some of the best in the world’.

“The event provided both a great opportunity for the students to meet their new Principal and for me to meet them and understand the issues they are affected by,” said Anne.

“Overall it went really well and gave me a lot to think about. Sunderland College is committed to giving students the best experience possible and events like this help us work towards doing that.”

Other topics covered included questions about sports activities, GSCE maths and the creation of further teaching facilities at the College’s Washington Campus.

Callum Hutchinson, 17, plans to go to university to study veterinary medicine and was one of the many students who attended. An A Level student from Washington he asked Anne about a timetabling issue affecting his physics class.

Callum said: “Anne listened to my questions and my timetabling issue has now been sorted.

“It’s great to make your voice heard and be able to speak to the person in charge, it shows they care.”
