Students and staff around all the college campuses are raising money for Alex Neal, a St Peter's campus student who needs to travel to the USA for life saving surgery.
Alex was recently diagnosed with a rare tumour after an abnormality was revealed in an eye test.
At the begining of the month Alex underwent invasive surgery at Newcastle RVI but the doctors were unable to remove the whole tumour as it was attached to her eye.
To complete the operation she must fly to Jacksonville, Florida for up to 12 weeks of special radiotherapy to save her life. The NHS are able to pay for her and her dad but cannot afford to cover the cost of both her parents travelling.
The family are trying to raise £5,000 to help Alex have the family support she needs while in treatment and students and staff are joining the cause.
On Friday the 3rd of May St Peter’s Campus will be trying to raise as much money as possible with a tombola, cake sale, raffle and comedy event over the lunch break.
Other campuses are also getting involved with a staff/student 5-aside match at 17:30 on Bede Campus, sponsored silence, 24 hour online gaming marathon and more.
Wrist bands are being sold by the Enrichment Team, who are also taking direct donations and raffle prices from anybody that would like to help Alex and her family in their time of need.
If you would like any further information about how you can donate or help raise money for Alex, please contact your campus Enrichment Officer. You can also donate direct through Alex’s GoFundMe page.
