Jobs fair for those who care

Those curious about a career in care are being invited to a recruitment event hosted by Sunderland College.

The event takes place at the college’s Bede campus on Durham Road, on Thursday, April 18 between 11am and 2pm.

Due to an ageing population there is currently a rising demand for skilled and compassionate staff in the industry.

Already more than ten different organisations and businesses have signed up to the event including Prestige Nursing and Care, Housing 21, Bluebird Care and Mears Care Ltd.

The purpose of the event is to bring together those interested in a career in care with employers who may have job opportunities and are looking to recruit new staff.

The event is aimed at existing and former Sunderland College students although those currently claiming job seekers allowance can book a place through their local Jobcentre Plus office.

Paul Stafford, Sunderland College’s employer liaison manager, said: “The event is one of many hosted by the college with the aim of boosting our student’s employment prospects.

“We have a variety of care business and organisations in attendance and members of our own apprenticeship and employability team will be on hand to offer advice and guidance to anyone who attends.

“This is great opportunity for people to put themselves in front of prospective employers and to find out more about a career in care.”

Places are limited so it is essential to book before attending and attendees are advised to bring along an up-to-date version of their CV.

Sunderland College students can book a place by calling 0191 511 6086 or registering online at www.sunderlandcollege.ac.uk/bookaplace
