Sunderland College is set to play a part in the education of students based over 5000 miles away following the signing of an agreement with a college in Myanmar.
Victoria University College based in Yangon, Myanmar has signed an agreement to run Level 3 Foundation Programmes in Business, IT and Health and Social Care affiliated by the college for the next three years, with additional courses including Engineering and Travel and Tourism being introduced in the coming months.
The partnership will see regular contact between Sunderland College and Victoria University College teaching staff to share best practice and to ensure that quality standards are maintained. Discussions are also underway about the possibility of offering Higher Diplomas through the partnership.
Dr Nay Win Naing, patron of Victoria University College paid a visit to Bede campus to meet with principal Anne Isherwood and to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise the agreement.
Anne Isherwood, said that the agreement will further enhance the city’s profile in the international arena. She said: “Sunderland College prides itself in building quality partnerships with overseas education institutes and has achieved an excellent reputation throughout the regions in which it operates.
“We have established some excellent international partnerships and approved quality partners in the design and delivery of Sunderland College programmes. The agreement with Victoria University College in Myanmar is another exciting development for the college and an opportunity for overseas students to benefit from the high quality programmes and teaching that we take such pride in.”
