A Sunderland College student is preparing to stand up and be counted after securing a Norwegian placement as part of a partnership with a leading stock-taking and inventory company.
Amy Reay, 25, from Hylton Castle, will fly to Norway in August as part of an eight week programme with Retail Grocery Inventory Service (RGIS) to work for a range of retailers in their stock-taking departments.
In November 2013, Sunderland College teamed up with RGIS, a market leader in supply chain and stock-taking, to offer free pre-employment training. The partnership has helped to match between 40 and 60 individuals to roles as shop floor inventory workers as those that complete the course are guaranteed an interview with RGIS.
Amy, who completed a pre-selection training course with Sunderland College in December 2013, as part of her RGIS employment, said: “I’m really looking forward to my placement in Norway – I’ve worked as a retail stock checker for a number of leading retailers since completing my course, including Matalan, Marks and Spencer and New Look so I’m looking forward to seeing how my training can be applied overseas.”
Paul Stafford, employer liaison manager at Sunderland College, said: “The pre-training course is a great opportunity for students and I’m thrilled to see it has prepared Amy for a role in retail stocktaking in order to gain valuable experience in a real work environment.
“Sunderland College has an important role to play in supporting our students to build skills needed for life and this really is a fantastic opportunity for Amy to enhance her career prospect.”
Luke Severn, recruitment and training specialist at RGIS, said: “Amy has been with us since January 2014 and joined us through our partnership with Sunderland College, to provide opportunities to pre-selection candidates. She quickly rose up through the ranks and has been a very reliable and hardworking employee and we are pleased that we were able to offer her this opportunity.”
Sunderland College pre-selection training courses will start from 18 August until 27 August at the Cobalt Centre in North Shields. For more information, visit www.sunderlandcollege.ac.uk, call 0191 511 6000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
