Football-mad youngsters showed off their ball skills as they took part in a futsal festival at Sunderland College.

More than 100 children attended the Fast Feet Football Academy event which is the first community group to use the college’s brand new sports facilities.

The two-day event featured futsal sessions for children aged seven to eleven and was organised to celebrate the launch of Fast Feet Football Academy at Sunderland College’s Bede Campus.

Fast Feet Football Academy is a football development centre and its aim is to inspire children to enjoy and participate in sporting activities.

The organisation currently holds events for more than 900 children per week across the North East and it will now be running weekly sessions for youngsters aged three to twelve at the college’s state-of-the-art sports building.

Mark Rutter, Fast Feet Football Academy’s coaching director, said: “Our first event at Sunderland College was a huge success and we were delighted that so many children attended.

“Hosting the futsal festival at the college’s fabulous new sporting facilities was a great privilege and we look forward to working closely with the college going forward, as we host our academy training sessions at the venue.”

The college’s new sports building features a multi-use sports hall, sports science performance lab, sports massage treatment areas, exercise studio and a fully equipped £100,000 fitness suite.

Sunderland College is also working with other groups to organise further community activities at the facilities.

Graham Mytton, the college’s head of department for sport and tourism, said: “We were thrilled to welcome Fast Feet Football Academy to the college following the development of our new sports facilities and we are excited to open our doors to more community groups in the coming weeks.

“We believe it is very important for the college to be part of the community and we are committed to working in partnership with local groups to ensure people in the area have access to excellent sporting facilities.”
