Sunderland College’s commercial restaurant has been awarded another accolade by TripAdvisor after achieving consistently great customer reviews.
The Lounge Bistro and Bar, located at the college’s Hylton Campus, has won TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for the second year running.
This award is based on reviews by TripAdvisor customers and is handed to organisations which regularly achieve positive ratings.
As well as retaining its Certificate of Excellence, the Lounge Bistro and Bar is currently in the top ten restaurants and top ten places to eat in Sunderland.
Kathryn Shepherd, restaurant coordinator, said: “We are delighted to be awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for the second year in a row. This award recognises the high quality food and customer service delivered at the Lounge Bistro and Bar which we pride ourselves on, and we would like to thank everyone who has given the restaurant such fantastic reviews.”
The Lounge Bistro and Bar is a training restaurant for catering students and gives them the ideal platform to gain experience and develop their skills in a real work setting.
Head chef Darren Grey is supported by the catering students to create mouth-watering cuisine, using fresh, locally sourced and seasonable produce.
Kathryn added: “Our catering students are trained to the highest standards and find working in the Lounge Bistro and Bar an invaluable experience. They are given the opportunity to experiment with fresh, interesting and flavoursome ingredients, and create dishes which are truly enjoyed by our customers.
“The students are over the moon that the restaurant has won this accolade again, and it really does reflect the hard work and dedication of all of the staff and students who make dining at the Lounge Bistro and Bar such an enjoyable experience.”
As well as offering coffee mornings, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, the bistro also holds themed evenings throughout the year, including the upcoming ‘Student End of Year Dinner’ which are planned and hosted by the college’s catering students.
In autumn 2016, the restaurant will relocate to the college’s brand new £29million City Campus in the heart of Sunderland city centre.
City Campus is currently under construction, and once open, it will train all catering and hospitality students and will also be home to students on vocational courses including advanced engineering, manufacturing, construction trades, automotive trades, travel and tourism, and hair and beauty.
The new restaurant in the multi-million-pound campus will feature state-of-the-art equipment, a range of dining settings and modern décor, catering for 80-85 people.
