Who is this course for?

Anyone interested in pursuing a career in Computer Games Design, Computer Games Art, Computer Animation, or VFX. You must have a passion for games (not just playing), animation and VFX, and be creative, with solid IT skills, and the motivation to work hard. You don’t need to be able to draw, but you will need to be willing to try to improve your visual communication skills.

What do you need to apply for the course?

You’ll need a minimum of two GCSEs at grade 3 including Maths and English. You must have a keen interest in both the practical and analytical aspects of the computer games, animation & VFX industries.

What are the key things you'll learn?

The aim of the course is to provide you with an introduction to the principles of computer game development, animation and VFX. This will include planning, design and production techniques, and experience of industry standard software and skills. The course is structured to encourage the development of the skills required by the computer games, animation and VFX industries. This is achieved through offering a range of industry standard software on high quality computer hardware. As this is a design course, you will also develop your drawing skills and learn to communicate your ideas.
You will complete the AIM Awards Level 2 Diploma in Skills for the Creative Industries: Games Design (QCF) qualification.

How you will learn

You will be taught through workshop-based sessions that encourage hands on experience of industry standard software and techniques. You will use the latest software and hardware to produce 2D games, 3D game levels, game design documents, concept art, 3D models, VFX sequences, and digital images. You will also learn about the games, animation and VFX industries, and underpinning research and theory.

Where could this course take you?

Students who successful complete the Level 2 Games, Animation & VFX course, could then progress onto our NextGen Computer Games, Animation and VFX National Extended Diploma Level 3.

What costs will you incur?

You will be expected to come to class equipped with pens, pencils, and two notepads. You should have your own storage device such as a memory stick or hard drive that has at least a 4GB capacity, or be signed up to an online storage solution. You may also have the opportunity to attend EGX, Animex, Insomnia and Disneyland Paris.
