Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone interested in developing listening skills, gaining an understanding of the counselling process and developing personal insights and self-awareness.


What do you need to apply for the course?

You do not need any formal qualifications, simply an interest in Counselling. You will need to be 19 or over on the 1st of September.

What are the key things you'll learn?

You will learn the definition of Counselling, Counselling Settings, Attending Skills, Non-Verbal Communication, Active Listening Skills, Two theoretical approaches/ models and Endings.

How you will learn

You will learn through: Mini Lectures, Small Group Work, Large Group Discussion, Trio Skills Practice, Experiential Exercises and Journal Writing.

Where could this course take you?

The course will enable you to apply for the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Combined Studies) – Counselling Pathway. You could also progress on to other short courses available at the college.
