Who is this course for?

This course is for you if you are a fitness professional wanting to advance your knowledge in this specialist area. The course will allow you to prescribe, plan, conduct and review exercise programmes to address the needs of older adults.

What do you need to apply for the course?

In order to apply for this course you will need to have completed a Level 2 Fitness Instructor Course or a Level 3 course in Personal Training or Exercise Referral. You can take all of these courses a part of Sunderland College’s adult education programme.

What are the key things you'll learn?

You will learn about the effects of ageing, the associated physiological and biomechanical changes and common medical conditions found in older adults. You will go on to learn how these changes affect an individual’s ability to exercise and how to plan, deliver and review exercise programmes to suit these clients.

How you will learn

This is a theoretical course delivered in the state of the art classrooms in our new Sports Academy building. Theories will be applied to case studies and scenarios to further your understanding for specific situations.
