Who is this course for?

This programme is run in partnership with the University of Sunderland, the qualification you will receive is awarded by the University of Sunderland.

This course is suitable for you if you have a strong interest in Psychology and want to study Psychology at degree level but don’t have the right qualifications.

What do you need to apply for the course?

To apply for this course you are required to hold a Level 2 qualification (NVQ or GCSE) and to have attempted a Level 3 qualification (A Level or equivalent) but not succeeded.

You must also have GSCE grade C or above in Mathematics and English Language. Equivalent alternative qualifications are also accepted, such as Level 2 Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number.

Applications from mature students who have not studied a Level 3 qualification are welcomed and will be considered on an individual basis.

What are the key things you'll learn?

Individual differences: this will cover personality and intelligence, understanding metal health.

Introduction to Research methods: this will cover many aspects of conducting a good experiment, including ethics.

Topics in Psychology: this will cover the main approaches to Psychology and contemporary issues.

This will cover all of the body systems, for example; skeletal and muscular systems, nervous system and reproductive systems.

The course also includes: Mathematics, Statistics, ICT and Study Skills

How you will learn

On this course you will experience a combination of teaching and learning styles, to include:

  • Lectures
  • Seminars
  • Practical sessions
  • Individual and group projects and presentations

Assessments will include:

  • Lab and Experimental reports
  • Essay writing
  • Presentations
  • Exams

Where could this course take you?

After successful completion of your first year, you will complete the remaining three years of study at the University of Sunderland. At the end of your four year programme you will achieve your BSc (Hons) in Psychology.


What costs will you incur?

Tuition fee: £7,500 for 1st Year (with a fee reduction of £1200 for Sunderland College students) £9,000 pa thereafter.

You will be expected to provide your own pens, stationery and a scientific calculator.

Textbooks and other reading material are available from the College Learning Centre and University libraries, but you may choose to purchase your own copies of key texts.

Other course costs: Printing for your course – you will receive £30 credit for printing which will be paid in three instalments of £10 per term. Any printing requirements in excess of this can be purchased.

There will be several visits to the University campus throughout the year.

You will be eligible to apply for a free local travel card for the first year of your studies.
