Who is this course for?
If you enjoy sport and outdoor activities and would like to develop your practical skills then this course is ideal for you. It’s also a good starting point for people wishing to study Outdoor Education at a higher level.
What do you need to apply for the course?
You’ll need a minimum of two GCSEs at grade D or above.
What are the key things you'll learn?
This course explores a range of subject areas including:
• Leading Outdoor & Adventurous Activities
• Expedition Experience
• Outdoor Adventurous Activities
Learners will develop keys skills associated with kayaking, expeditions and climbing and also opportunities to do taster sessions in canoeing, surfing, coasteering, orienteering and ghyll scrambling.
How you will learn
The course is mainly taught through practical methods in well-equipped outdoor environments. The course also includes visits to climbing walls, water based activities centre, hill walking, orienteering and expeditions. The learners will be based at MAC for classroom/practical teaching activities and at Bede Campus for tutorial and maths/English elements of the course.
Where could this course take you?
If you are successful on the course and achieve a merit grade then you will be able to progress onto a level 3 Extended Certificate in Outdoor Education. You will also have the opportunity to progress onto sport or public services at Level 3. All of which open up opportunities to work in a wide variety of Sport & Outdoor industries.
