Who is this course for?
NVQ in Painting & Decorating is structured to cater for the two disciplines within this industry sector. The two disciplines are: Painter/ Decorator and Industrial Painter. This qualification enables skilled individuals, employed within the sector to gain a nationally recognised qualification.
What do you need to apply for the course?
In order to enrol on this qualification, candidates must be employed in the construction (painting and decorating) industry, with a minimum of 12 months experience.

Mandatory Units • Conform to general workplace safety • Conform to efficient work practices • Move and handle resources • Erect and dismantle access/ working platforms Painter (students must complete the following units) • Prepare surfaces for painting/ decorating • Apply paint systems by brush and roller Industrial Painter (students must complete the following units) • Prepare surfaces for painting/ decorating • Apply paint systems by brush and roller Students must also complete one of the following units: • Operate equipment in support of the paint sprayer • Operate equipment in support of the abrasive blast cleaner
How you will learn
The course is assessed within the workplace, by a qualified NVQ Assessor who will observe performance. Some additional written work may be required in order to confirm underpinning knowledge within the units. NVQ assessors will visit on a regular basis, and will provide on-going support and guidance throughout this qualification. Candidates will complete a number of mandatory and optional units for their chosen area/ pathway
Where could this course take you?
Completion of this qualification provides learners with progression opportunities to the NVQ Level 3 in Decorative Finishing and Painting Occupations, or other related qualification.
