Who is this course for?

This course is for you if you are a fitness professional wanting to advance your knowledge in this specialist area. The course will allow you to prescribe, plan, conduct and review exercise programmes to address the needs of individuals with low back pain.

What do you need to apply for the course?

You must hold a Level 3 qualification in exercise referral before you can apply for this course. The Exercise Referral course is available as part of Sunderland College’s adult education programme.

What are the key things you'll learn?

You will learn about the prevalence and classifications of low back pain and its impact on an individual’s health. You will then go on to learn about the causes of low back pain and how it can develop. Finally you will learn how to plan and implement activity and lifestyle strategies that will help to manage low back pain for individual clients and the barriers that they may need to overcome in implementing these strategies.

How you will learn

The course will include both theory and practical lessons delivered at our new Sports Academy. Theory lessons will take place in our state of the art classroom and learning spaces. The practical elements will be in our new fitness suite and studio spaces taking advantage of the latest Technogym fitness equipment. The course is assessed through tests, workbooks and practical assessments.

This course will give you the qualification you need to work with and improve the lives of these specialist clients. This course is recognised by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) making you a specialist exercise instructor in the area of low back pain.
