Who is this course for?

This course is for people interested in learning about the basics of Sign Language.

It is designed for those who have little or no experience of the language but would like to find out more.

What do you need to apply for the course?

You do not need any official qualifications to apply for this course, but you will need to be 19 or over on the 1st of September.

What are the key things you'll learn?

The course covers the following areas:

• How to greet a deaf person and getting their attention.

• The use of sign language and finger spelling.

• BSL grammar and sign order, the vocabulary and phases required to manage and communicate in a variety of situations.

• Sign space.

• Facial expression.

• Difference between Sign Supported English and BSL.

This course is taught through weekly, classroom sessions.
