Who is this course for?

This course is for those who wish to develop skills and apply them to the field of sport.

What do you need to apply for the course?

There are no entry criteria for this course. However, you should be interested in a career within sport or exercise.

What are the key things you'll learn?

You will complete 4 core units which are designed to help you develop skills for learning e.g. working with others and researching a topic. The rest of the course is made up of more sports sector based units e.g. coaching skills in sport, training for fitness and how exercise affects the body.

How you will learn

You will enjoy a varied mix of practical lessons, theory lessons and workplace based scenarios. The course is 100% vocationally assessed with no external exams.

Where could this course take you?

This course can lead down a number of progression routes. You can go on to level 2 sport after completing the one year course. However, if you show you are capable early in your course you could move on to level 2 after half the course (15 weeks). You would then complete the level 2 extended certificate over the second 15 weeks meaning you could be a level 3 student one year after starting level 1.

What costs will you incur?

There will be minimal costs for the course. You will be expected to wear appropriate kit for practical lessons and there will be an option to buy Sunderland college kit. You will also be expected to be prepared to learn with appropriate stationary e.g. pen, paper etc.
