Sport and Public Services
16-18 Year Olds
Who is this course for?
The qualification is designed to give you the skills you need to progress to further study in sport or public services.
What do you need to apply for the course?
There is no minimum grade boundary for the course, however it is important to have a keen interest in either sport or public services.
What are the key things you'll learn?
You will work towards the planning and leading of two events (running a sports event and a health and well-being event). These will take place at the end of the college year and to prepare for these you will learn about generic skills needed for employment e.g. working with others and being organised. You will also learn about more subject specific topics needed for the events such as; playing sport, contributing to the community and keeping active and healthy.
How you will learn
This is a skills based course and much of the learning and assessment will be practical and skill based. There will also be theory based classroom activities and some written assessment.
Where could this course take you?
You will progress onto a choice of the sport or public services at level 2. However for those students regularly attaining the higher merit or distinction grades, then there will be an opportunity to progress up to the level 2 course after Christmas. So consider this; you could start as a level one student in September and be a level 3 student the following September!
What costs will you incur?
Course expenditure will be minimal, you will be expected to be prepared for lessons with correct stationary e.g. pens, pencils and paper.
