Who is this course for?

This class is perfect for people who have never experienced tap dance before. This Tap Dance Beginners class is a step-by-step guide to the essential steps, sounds, and moves of tap dance. There are lots of benefits to this course; exercise is one, but there’s also the social side. It’s a great way to make new friends. You must have an interest in movement and dance. The course is stress-free, fun and uplifting, perfect for all ages! Everyone will be encouraged to have a go.

What do you need to apply for the course?

No formal qualifications are needed to apply for this course.

What are the key things you'll learn?

You will start off by learning the sounds you can make, and their names, you will build up to simple steps – both on the spot and travelling steps. You will also learn about rhythm and how to develop the subtle light and shade needed for perfect tap dancing. Each week will differ slightly in terms of the dance style to keep the classes fresh & interesting for all participants. Recap sessions will be done throughout the 10-week course.

How you will learn

This class is designed to understand posture and awareness of the dancing space and develop basic co-ordination of arms, feet and head technique! Focusing on centre work and sequences that move across the floor. Each participant will be involved and take part in a practical group class.
