Adult Money

Some of the adult courses available at Sunderland College require you to pay a fee. If you’re unable to cover the cost of this up front we offer a range of options to help you pay for your course.

Fee Remission

A tick icon Some adult courses at Sunderland College are “fee-free” (fee remission) . These are marked with the green tick icon in our Changing Futures publication.

To be eligible for fee remission you need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • In receipt of JSA
  • In receipt of ESA in a Work Related Activity Group
  • In receipt of Universal Credit as unemployed and have been mandated to training
  • Unemployed and in receipt of another state benefit not listed above
  • An unwaged partner of someone in receipt of one of the above
  • Aged 16-18 (undertaking training not related to an Apprenticeship)
  • Want to be employed or to progress into more sustainable employment and earn less than £330 a month or less than 16 times the national minimum wage a week

If you’re not eligible for Fee Remission, you may be entitled to a Advanced Learner Loan. To find out more about Advanced Learner Loans please click here.

GCSE Maths and English

All GCSE Maths and GCSE English courses are now free to adults.

Free Level 2 and 3 Courses

If you are 19-23 and do not already have a full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification you will be able to study on one for free.

Alternatively if you need to attend an Entry/Level 1 course as an essential progression step to your first full Level 2 course, this will also be free.

Payment by Instalment

Where the tuition fee is over £250 and the course lasts more than 20 weeks, instalment options are available. Please bring your credit/debit card to the enrolment session in order to set up your instalment plan.

Advanced Learner Loans

Advanced Learner Loans help people aged 19 and over undertake vocational, technical and professional qualifications in further education at Levels 3 and above. Loans provide a source of fees support for learners, enabling then to reap the personal and financial benefits of their study, which in turn will support the economy.

Most learners aged 19 and over, studying at Level 3 and above, will qualify for these new loans. However, if you are aged 19-23 and have not already achieved a full Level 3 qualification then you may be entitled to full funding for a Level 3 course. Other Financial Support

At Sunderland College we also offer financial support for adult students through our Learner Support Fund.
