Firms in the region previously unable to afford Apprentices can now benefit from a grant available from City of Sunderland College.
Companies with fewer than 250 employers looking to take on an Apprentice across a range of areas including customer service, call centres, IT and business administration can apply for funding of up to £2,500.
Dave Hall, Director of Work-Based Learning at the College, said: “We are thrilled to be able to offer additional support to companies who may not have had the monies available to benefit from the value that an Apprenticeship can bring to an organisation.
“The Apprenticeship Grants encourage firms to create a new position and take on an unemploy edperson. We have a limited number of funded positions to offer, so interested companies need to apply by 31 August.
“Once in place, our team will ensure the Apprentice is equipped with high quality, nationally-recognised qualifications as well as support throughout the placement to maximise the value both parties receive from the experience.”
The funding has been made available via a tripartite arrangement between the Skills Funding Agency, the European Social Fund and the National Apprenticeship Service.
Employers eligible for the grant must have not been engaged in apprenticeships previously.. Businesses must also comply with state aid rules and employ the Apprentice for a minimum of 35 hours per week.
Employers receive a £1,000 payment at the start of an Apprenticeship and up to an additional £1,500 top-up payment after six months.
