The spirit of Christmas was alive in song at a recent carol service organised by Sunderland College students at St Matthews Church in Newbottle, Sunderland.
Parents, local care home residents and other members of the Newbottle community joined in with the ‘Celebration of Christmas’ event.
The carol service was organised by the Together Activity Group (TAG), which aims to get students with disabilities and learning difficulties to take part in group activities.
The service also involved performances by the students, including dancing, sign language singing and readings.
As part of the fund raising event, the students were selling hand-crafted items to raise money for the church.
Joanne Martin, a lecturer at Sunderland College, said: “It was a lovely day for both the students and the community to share in some Christmas cheer and raise a few smiles as well as some generous funds.
“It’s always rewarding to give back to the local community and we were really pleased with the amount we’ve so far managed to raise for the church.”
