College awards Ada for Lifelong Learning

In the week of the Queen’s official 90th birthday, Sunderland College celebrates lifelong learning.

The Queen celebrates her official 90th birthday today, Thursday 21st April, and as our longest reigning monarch of over 63 years, Sunderland College are marking the occasion by highlighting the amazing achievements of Ada Cantwell.

At 92 years of age, Ada proves that there is no ‘retirement age’ when it comes to learning. Having successfully completed an impressive three ICT courses across the academic year, Ada, of Chester le Street, is a regular visitor at Washington Library, where she thoroughly enjoys her ongoing commitment to studying.

Lecturer Alison Wake, presented Ada with her Student of the Month award this week to reward her dedication.

Alison said, “Ada exhibits a real passion for learning and her determination and enthusiasm to interact with peers and improve her knowledge and skills is infectious.  It was fantastic that the college chose Ada as a worthy recipient of the Student of the Month award, and it was a great pleasure to present it.”

“She is a credit to the college and a fantastic ambassador for lifelong learning. It was especially memorable to present the award in the week of the Queen’s 90th birthday, as Ada is a fantastic role model for anyone who wants to continue to learn, regardless of their age.”
