Staff and Students at from Sunderland College’s Arts Academy came together to host successful Christmas Community Event.
The annual event invited the local community, staff and students into the Arts Academy to buy last minute gifts and enjoy entertainment from the college’s music, dance and acting students, there was also a chance to meet Santa and have a free digital picture taken. This year, there the college was joined by 15 external businesses who supported the event along with students who made some hand crafted gifts to sell too.
All of Creative Arts students at the college were involved in some aspect of the day and business students staffed stalls as part of their course to raise money for charity. HND Performance students also created a princess and prince show to perform to young children with disabilities.
Sheree Rymer, Creative Arts Curriculum Manager said:
“It is my favourite day of the whole year, as everyone comes together with a sense of community spirit. Seeing the students make gifts to sell and perform to entertain demonstrates the character of the faculty. Students always love getting those work readiness skills during the event.”
The event gave staff and students a chance to give something back to the community and provide an accessible place to bring children to meet Santa free of charge. The event was one of the best to date and plans are already being discussed for next year’s event.
