Sunderland College has announced an exciting new partnership with nutrition experts to further support student athletes to achieve their sport ambitions.
A collaborative partnership between the College and Youth Sport Nutrition (YSN), which was formalised last month, will provide expert nutrition education to student athletes who are part of the College’s elite Sports Development Centres.
Students will have access to nutrition workshops, a specialist nutrition app and work experience opportunities. YSN will also offer educational workshops to parents.
John Rushworth, Faculty Director for Sport, Health and Wellbeing at Sunderland College, said:
“We are delighted to be working with Youth Sport Nutrition. This new partnership highlights the importance we place on ensuring our students are guided by industry experts across all aspects of their programme.
“The workshops will provide expert nutrition advice to allow our student athletes to maximise their performance and achieve their sporting goals.”
YSN aims to educate and raise awareness for parents, individuals and coaches around correct nutrition for youth athletes, and support the demands of competing at elite level whilst encouraging increased participation, longevity and success in sport.
Ben Jefferson, Director at Youth Sport Nutrition, said:
“Youth Sport Nutrition are delighted to be working with Sunderland College. It’s a great opportunity for us to work with some very talented young people in a college known for its sporting excellence.”
The new partnership follows an announcement by Sunderland College for TASS Dual Career Accreditation, recognising their commitment to the academic support of its elite student athletes.
The College currently offers Men’s and Women’s Football Development Centres, in association with Improtech Soccer, plus Rugby and Cricket Sports Development Centres and a Talented Athlete Scholarship.
