To support this year’s Apprenticeship Week campaign, Sunderland College ran a number apprenticeship takeover events for both current and potential students.
The event allowed current students and visitors to hear from employers, current apprentices and gain advice and guidance about how to secure an apprenticeship.
The takeover ran as a carousel, allowing each group to hear from the range of employers including the NHS, Sunderland Care and Support, ZF Group and Unipres. Employers and their apprentice from different industries were able to provide their experience of gaining and apprenticeship or employing an apprentices rather than industry.
Each talk included the employers discussing the qualities they look for in an apprentice and why their company chose to employ an apprentice. There was also the chance to hear from an apprentice currently on programme with the employers, who provided an insight into their day to day tasks, what they enjoy most about their apprenticeship and what their plans are after completing their apprenticeship programme.
Jessika Kitson, Sunderland College Recruitment and Engagement Officer said:
“Our apprenticeship events were a great success, it was fantastic to see so many of our current students engaged in speaking with employers. It was also lovely to catch up with some potential students from St. Aidans Academy and Sandhill View Academy, so they could gain an insight into what their options are after leaving school.”
