Attractive benefits for this post include 35 days’ annual leave per year plus bank holidays and the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Following the recent merger between the Sunderland and Northumberland Colleges we are looking to appoint a Director of Health, Safety and Environment with responsibility for all College sites that form the Education Partnership North East (E.P.N.E) group.

We are looking for a self-starter with a ‘can do’ attitude who can take health and safety within the group to the next level. With a College portfolio that includes a land-based provision you will possess a broad and deep understanding of health and safety legislation and its application within a teaching and learning environment. In the current climate of energy saving, recycling and better use of resources you will also be well versed in environmental legislation.

You will be expected to build on the great work already completed within the Health and Safety department over the last few years, develop relationships and action plans to ensure improvements continue and are consistent across all sites. Similarly, the appointed individual will lead the ‘green agenda’ to ensure all Colleges are operating a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach.

You must be prepared to work at all levels within the business and be prepared for travel within the North East area ranging from Hartlepool in the Tees Valley up to Berwick on the Scottish Borders, therefore you must have your own transport and a clean driving licence.

You should possess a history of delivering performance improvements, cultural change and enhancing management systems in organisations with varying levels of HS&E maturity.

You will hold a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent as a minimum and will be a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH). Experience of sustainability is required as is a pragmatic approach to safety and the ability to engage and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.

If you want to apply for this role you’ll be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure Check. We are big advocates of diversity so applications are welcome from anyone who’s suitably qualified.

All applications must be received by 12noon on Friday 11 October 2019.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place week commencing 04 November 2019

We are working towards equal opportunities and welcome applications from all sections of the community. We are committed to PREVENT and safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
