Overview

Attractive benefits for this post include 35 days’ annual leave per year plus bank holidays and the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Due to imminent maternity leave, we have an exciting opportunity available for a talented, experienced and innovative Head of ICT to join our team. The ICT and Learning Innovation team is about to start on an ambitious period of change, and this role is crucial to its success, with the opportunity for significant development and influence on the future direction of travel for the college and its learners.

Primarily based at our Ashington Campus in Northumberland, but working across all of our college campuses including a need for regular travel to Sunderland, your focus will be on supporting the roadmap, design, and subsequent implementation of new transformational infrastructure delivery across a varied campus environment. In addition, you will support the significant post-merger activities for Northumberland College and its integration into the wider College group, driving improvements and efficiencies. You will bring a wealth of digital knowledge, with experience in leading a team confidently through periods of change, as well as having excellent knowledge of digital technology trends and implementing these.

You will be experienced in communication and customer service, as well as stakeholder management, with a demonstrable ability to deliver a superb customer experience as well as focus on customer outcomes at all times during technical delivery. In particular you will be passionate about ensuring technical alignment to organisational outcomes.

You will have experience of leading on technical projects or working within a project delivery environment, with a focus on delivery and the ability to ensure timely updates to project leads on the technical aspects of project delivery and keep this closely managed and communicated. You will likely have some project management experience, and the ability to keep projects on time and within budget.

As a critical role within the college, this role will be perfect for you if you are heavily self-starting and keen to progress your skills and knowledge rapidly within a very fast paced environment. You will be part of the recently created ICT and Learning Innovation team, which in turn is part of a newly created college group, and will play an integral part in delivering the team’s ambitious vision and ensuring outstanding customer experience during a period of significant organisational and technological change. You will be comfortable in challenging the status quo and contributing positively to continual improvement in order to exceed customer expectations.

Good technical knowledge of a variety of technologies, particularly Office 365 and compute/storage/network stacks is to be expected, especially of how to support change in these technologies and ensure benefits are realised. In addition, you will be a strong and high profile leader, giving confidence and direction to the team. You will also have excellent experience in support/service management, and a mature knowledge of incident and service request processes and experience of developing and embedding these processes to benefit continual service improvement.

Educated to a degree level standard in an IT discipline, or equivalent professional qualifications or experience, with strong English and Maths qualifications, this role will provide you with the opportunity to support the design of strategic solutions and ensure these are delivered.

Due to the nature of this post you will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure Check.
