Job Description

A passionate, highly motivated individual is required to work as an Apprentice Chef at Coffea Caban in Sunderland City.

Coffea Caban is a coffee shop in Sunderland City Centre..

Working at Coffea Caban, your role will include:

  • Preparing ingredients for cooking, including washing and peeling fresh vegetables and fruit
  • Weighing, measuring and mixing ingredients.
  • Baking
  • Preparing and cooking Meals
  • Presenting food
  • Setting up and maintaining a clean an tidy work station
  • Follow correct hygiene procedures
  • Ensuring your uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional at all times. As part of your apprenticeship, your employer will support you to attend college, at the newly opened City Campus, one day a week to learn new skills that you can demonstrate to your employer as and when is suitable.

Should you demonstrate the skills and passion the employer is looking for then they would like you to become a full time member of the team at the end of your apprenticeship

Working Week

The coffee shop is open 6 days per week. One day will be spent at college, 4 days will be spent in the kitchen, however, shift patterns may vary in accordance with business and staffing.

It is expected that the successful individual will work straight shifts between the hours of 7.30am and 4.30pm, 4 out of 6 days on a rota system plus one full day at college.

Skills Required

Previous experience, such as knife skills, is an advantage; however it is not essential as full training will be provided.

Good communication skills and the ability to listen to instruction.

Personal Qualities

You must be punctual, reliable, clean and presentable.

You should be able to take direction from others and be willing to learn new skills.

Reality Check

Working in a kitchen you must be able to handle the pressure of a fast paced environment.

This is a hazardous environment, using sharp knives and working with hot objects/ equipment, therefore you must be able to concentrate.

You will also be standing for long periods of time in a warm environment.
