What’s it all about?

This course is for those aged 19+ who wish to study counselling or psychology. There is an overarching aim of the course for students to progress to Level 4 studies at either internally in the college or a university of their choice.

On this course students study Level 2 units in English and Study Skills to refresh academic skills before progressing to Level 3 units that are aimed towards the counselling arena.

Whist on the course students are supported with their university application for Level 4 studies.

You will need to have a full Level 2 qualification, such as four GCSEs at a grade C or above (including GCSE English and Math's).

If you do meet the criteria, please contact the course leader as there is the opportunity to study a Progression Award to Access for 1 year before beginning the Access to HE Counselling Diploma.

19+ please enquire There are no additional costs to the course, however, students are to bring their own stationary. You may find the demands of the course easier if they have either a laptop, PC or a tablet to complete your coursework.

On the Access to Higher Education (HE) Counselling Diploma there is a variety of teaching methods to suit all students.
Students can expect to be taught through class sessions by specialist lecturers as well as structured independent study. The information in class allows students to complete assessments.

To ensure all students can reach their full potential, there is a variety of different assessment methods, including essays, reports, posters and presentations.

To ensure that students are prepared for future employment, there are also practical counselling sessions and reflection assessments.

Level 3 units are graded as a pass, merit or distinction.

Level 2 Math's and English must already be achieved before beginning the course and these subjects are included to fresh your knowledge.

If you do not have a Level 2 in English or Maths, please contact the programme lead and they can discuss your study options with you.

This course is delivered at Washington Campus. Day sessions begin at 9:30am and finishes at 2:30pm. The evening courses begin at 5pm and ends at 9pm.

This is a part-time course that is delivered over 8 hours per week. Students will attend 2 days or evenings per week.

- English Language Comprehension Level 2 - 3 credits (ungraded)
- Study Skills Level 2 - 3 credits (ungraded)
- Higher Maths Level 3 - 3 credits (ungraded)
- Counselling Theory Level 3 - 9 credits (graded)
- Psychology Level 3 (graded)
- Fundamental Skills in Counselling Level 3 - 9 credits (graded)
- Professional Skills in Counselling Level 3 - 9 credits (graded)
- Personal Development in Counselling Level 3 - 9 credits (graded)

What’s next?

Students that successfully complete their Access Diploma have the opportunity to progress to Level 4 studies in subject related areas, such as counselling or psychology.

Previous students have progressed to university both local and nationally, as well as progressing to a Level 4 internal course in counselling and psychology.
