What’s it all about?

This course is designed to support students to complete the qualification as a fast-track option.

If you do not already hold GCSE 4/C grades in Maths and English, it expected that you will work towards gaining these qualifications.

You will also need to obtain an enhanced DBS prior to beginning placement. Curriculum staff will support you to obtain this.

You will be taught using a range of teaching techniques, including classroom delivered sessions, interactive workshops and self-study.

Most teaching will take place in the classroom, with some opportunities for you to access online learning. You will also undertake a placement (voluntary or paid) to gain vital experience and to inform your learning.

English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/or English, we will support you to improve your skills.

You will need to complete 100 hours in a school setting to develop competencies that are required of the course. Curriculum staff will be able to guide and support you to obtain a placement.

You will need to obtain a enhanced DBS prior to commencing your placement, which curriculum staff can support you with obtaining.

You will develop experience within a school setting so that you can demonstrate key competencies.

5 hours per week in addition to placement hours.

Friday 9:30am-12:45pm

Face to ace delivery on campus (subject to change)

There is also an expectation that students engage in guided study remotely for a minimum of two hours per week.

The Supporting Teaching and Learning Level 2 Certificate has been designed to provide students with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments.

It covers a wide range of areas, including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour, and communication and professional relationships.

The course is for you if you wish to work within the school sector and do not already possess a relevant Level 2 qualification. It will provide you with a ‘licence to practice’ in a supervised capacity with children and young people within schools.

The course is aimed at students working in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or specialist schools, as well as colleges.

You will study several modules when studying this course including:

- Understanding children and young people's development
- Equality, diversity and inclusion in a learning environment for children and young people
- Supporting the health and safety of children and young People
- Promoting an effective learning environment
- Supporting positive behaviour in a learning environment for children and young people
- Contributing to teamwork in a learning environment
- Maintaining relationships with children and young people
- Providing displays in a learning environment
- Safeguarding children and young people
- Understanding children and young people’s play and leisure
- Schools as organisations

What’s next?

After successfully completing the course, you could find employment as an educational practitioner within a school sector.
You could also choose to progress to the Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning or an early years qualification.
