To enrol on this course, you should have one of the following criteria:

- One A Level in an Art based subject, supported by 5 GCSEs at grade 4 and above including Maths and English

- A Level 3 extended Diploma or equivalent

- An appropriate alternative qualification of equivalent level to those above

Mature students (18+) with alternative experience or qualifications may also wish to apply

This qualification is delivered through two main phases: an initial exploratory phase, and a final confirmatory phase. Learners will experiment with diverse media, materials, techniques and processes whilst exploring specialist areas within Art & Design at the beginning of the course. During the confirmatory phase learners produce a final major project and act upon knowledge, skills and understanding from the previous phase.

Work is assessed throughout the course using six key areas:
- Investigation
- Experimentation
- Evaluation & review
- Realisation
- Communication
- Self-directed practice

The course consists of three main projects all are assessed in college through a mixture of group critiques and ongoing individual help and guidance. There is an emphasis on portfolio building and professionalism.

This is a one year course, designed to help you build an individual portfolio. The main aim of the programme is to build confidence and prepare you for further study in a creative subject at degree level.

The course units are tailored to individual students aspirations and encourage the exploration of idea, methods of working and technical skill. This approach is underpinned by ongoing critical feedback allowing you to define and reach your full potential.

On completion of this course, you may progress to the next level of study by undertaking a university course in art and design.
