What’s it all about?
This course is designed for students who have just left school and want to pursue a career in the hospitality and catering industry.
There are no entry requirements for this course other than a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

You will be learning in a range of different environments, we have a fully licenced and working restaurant that is open to the public, this is where you will learn how a commercial kitchen works. We have a ‘training kitchen’ where you will cook a wide ran
English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.
You could have the opportunity to take part in a work placement, which is relevant to your course and future career ambitions. It could be for a week, or a day a week over a longer period.
We work with the following employers to help you get career ready and gain real wotk skills. Hilton Garden Inn, Radisson Blu Hotel, Lumley Castle, Jesmond Dene House.

What’s next?
With this qualification you could go straight into industry as a commis/trainee chef (approx £12,000 per year) or you could progress within the college to study either a level 2 VRQ or level 2 NVQ qualification in professional cookery.
