What’s it all about?

This programme is designed for people who wish to raise awareness of mental health, creating a culture of care and the promotion of positive mental health.

This programme will give you the opportunity to understand mental health, its associated care and how this can be applied to colleagues in the workplace or within your personal life

You will be taught using a range of teaching techniques including classroom delivered sessions, interactive workshops and self-study.

We have a number of links to industry including relationships with Mind, Parkinson’s Group, NHS, Sunderland Care and Support, Sunderland Home Care Association, Bluebird Care, as well as a number of local charitable organisations to ensure you gain an outstanding learning experience with us and are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to progress to a career in industry.

You will study approximately 4 hours per week in college and you will be expected to take some time outside of college to carry out independent study.

This course will be delivered on either a Tuesday or Thursday evening. Days and times will be confirmed at enrolment.

This programme is suitable for you if you wish gain knowledge to raise awareness of mental health, creating a culture of care and the promotion of positive mental health. It will provide you with the opportunity to understand mental health, its associated care and how this can be applied in a range of settings.

You will study three modules when undertaking this course including:

- Exploring mental health
- Understand how to support individuals with mental ill health
- Understand a mentally healthy environment

CACHE NCFE

This programme will provide you with the skills to support others with mental health issues. These skills will be gained by increasing your knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions and the principles of mental health first aid and how this can be implemented in the workplace or voluntary sector.

What’s next?

You could progress to a Level 3 course, for example Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health or Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills are potential routes that you could follow.
