This course is a co-designed and co-delivered coaching and physical education development opportunity with Sunderland College and a range of industry partners to produce the next generation of Sports Coaches, Sports Development Officers and Physical Education Teachers in the North East and beyond.
The two-year course will give students the tools required to be successful and be catered around the sports industry’s requirements.
Five GCSE's at a 4 or above required, including English and Maths which can be discussed at your admissions appointment prior to enrolling onto the course.

This programme of study will be a practical course which includes elements of theory. Students will be assessed delivering coaching sessions and expected to coach in the community as part of the programme. Students will be tasked with projects in across the City to increase participation numbers through Sport and Physical Activity.
Students will be also be expected, at times, to present finding and compile reports to achieve set learning objectives.
Applicants should be expected to or have achieved five GCSE grades at a 4 or above, including Maths and English.
Over the two years students will be expected to achieve a minimum of 100 hours work experience in sports coaching.
This unique course offers a combination of qualifications alongside industry experience to give students the skills and knowledge they need to progress straight into a career the sports industry or on to higher education.
We currently work with the following organisation Foundation of Light, UK Coaching, Durham FA, Everyone Active and RISE who have provided real world experience and opportunities for our students.
This study programme presents young people with aspirations of becoming a sports coach or physical education teacher with a fantastic opportunity to learn from industry specialists, develop their coaching and teaching skills and identify their pathway into a life-long career.
As part of the programme students will study a number of units including Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry, Health, Wellbeing and Sport, Developing Coaching Skills, Applied Sports Coaching, Anatomy and Physiology,
Rules, Regulations and Officiating, Influence of Technology in Sport and School Sport Delivery.
Students will also gain additional coaching qualifications including safeguarding and first aid, as well as taking part in workshops, masterclasses and placements with some of the country’s leading coaches, sports clubs and organisations.
