This course is for people interested in becoming a sports massage therapist looking to work within a sports therapy clinic, alongside a qualified physiotherapist or independently through their own business. It has been designed to provide you with the skills to work unsupervised as a sports massage practitioner, with non-pathological (non-injured) tissue.
You will need to hold a level 2 qualification in an anatomy and physiology related area such as GCSE Biology or PE, or have industry experience.

This course will develop your knowledge and understanding of Sports Massage Therapy including:
Anatomy and Physiology
Principles of Health and Fitness
Soft Tissue Dysfunction
Professional Practice in Sports Massage
Sports Massage Treatments
You will also provide sports massage therapy support at Houghton Rugby Football Club and run a sports massage therapy clinic at the college for staff, students and the public.
English and maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.
Tuesday and Thursday 5.30pm-8.30pm. Days and times of study are subject to change, timetables are confirmed at the start of term.
After successfully completing the course you could become a self-employed sports massage therapist running your own business or find work in spas, fitness centres, sports clubs or other leisure outlets.
The course would also allow you to progress on to a level 4 course in Sports Massage or can provide a route into a fitness instructing course.
