What’s it all about?

This course is suitable for anyone wanting a career in construction, specifically in surveying and design, civil engineering, building services design, or hazardous materials surveying. The T Level is designed for post-16 students and is an ideal qualification if you are intending to progress directly to employment within the construction industry a higher apprenticeship or you wish to further your studies in construction in Higher Education.

If you want to start a career as a building engineering technician, a civil engineering technician or a construction supervisor this may be the course for you.

T Level courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content will meet the needs of industry and prepare you for work. They provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door to highly skilled employment, an apprenticeship or higher-level study, including university.

You will need 5 GCSE's at grade 4-9 including Maths and English.

The Technical Qualification (TQ) is the main classroom-based element of the T Level and will see you learn from a curriculum that has been shaped by industry experts. During the two-year programme, you will learn the core knowledge that underpins each industry and you will also develop occupationally specific skills that will allow you to enter skilled employment within a specific occupation.

Teaching will include classroom, workshop, project activities and a minimum of 45 days industry placement. In terms of assessment, students must complete the following:

- Examination Paper 1: Science and Building Technology
- Examination Paper 2: Construction Industry and Sustainability
- Employer Set Project.
- Synoptic assessment for the Occupational Specialist Components.

You will require an understsanding of Maths and English and should have achieved a minimum of grade 5 at GCSE.

You will complete a mandatory industry placement during your two years of study. The placement will be around 45 days where you will be given the opportunity work with an employer and develop career ready skills whilst you study.

You will complete a minimum of 45 days industry placement and participate in employer set projects.

This is a full-time course delivered over 2 years, including an industry placement.

T Levels are a new level 3 qualification, which are the equivalent to achieving 3 A Levels and will be worth UCAS points.

For example, a T Level Distinction* is worth the same as 3 A-Levels at A*.

They will be recognised by universities and other education providers for students who wish to further their studies.

This Technical Qualification has been developed in consultation with employers in the construction industry to ensure you learn the skills and behaviours that will give you the best opportunity to be successful when applying for work.

The content is split into a core component that is common to all Construction T Levels, and a choice of one from four occupational specialisms, which are specific to this T Level in Construction: Design, Surveying and Planning.

The specialisms are:
- Surveying and Design for Construction and the Built Environment
- Civil Engineering
- Building Services Design
- Hazardous Materials Analysis and Surveying.

What’s next?
