Who is this course for?

This is the ideal course for you if you are seeking a higher level vocational course that has been designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for employment within a wide range of roles available in the health and social care sector.  The course offers specialist units alongside a strong work related emphasis, as well as the opportunity to progress to the HND in Health and Social Care.

What do you need to apply for the course?

You must be 18 years of age or over and possess one of the following:

BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Care/Health Studies.

AVCE/Advanced S/NVQ Level 3 in appropriate vocational area.

A Level with four passes (A*-C) at GCSE including Maths and English or

equivalent level 2

An Access to Higher Education qualification

Have at least 32 UCAS points

Applications are also welcome from mature students with relevant work experience.

You will also need to gain DBS Clearance.

How you will learn

While studying on this course you will experience a combination of teaching and learning styles as follows:

  • Practical and theoretical classroom teaching
  • Library drop-in sessions
  • Directed work with your peers
  • Directed private study

Assessments will incorporate formal written tasks; collaborative group presentations; independent learning; poster presentation; reports; portfolios, and case studies.  Each unit is assessed individually and via different means.

Where could this course take you?

Once you have completed this qualification you will be able to progress to the HND in Health and Social Care or directly into employment within the Health and Social Care sector.  There are a variety of roles open to you; from both the public and private sector.  Job opportunities include a range of roles within the NHS.  You could also find employment with Mental Health organisations, Drug and Alcohol agencies, Hospices, Social Care agencies and Charities.

Specific Job roles examples include Family Support Officer, Education Welfare Officer, Home Care Advocate, Health Promotion Assistant, Health Care Assistant, Social Workers Assistant, Probation services officer and Community Development Officer to name a few.
