Who is this course for?

This qualification is suitable for those age 19 and above. This qualification is designed for those looking to start work in, or already working in health and social care, who would like an understanding of caring for children and young people.

What do you need to apply for the course?

Those wishing to undertake the certificate should be aged 19 or over. You will need to have at least a Level 1 qualification in literacy as you will be expected to write answers for assessment purposes.

What are the key things you'll learn?

This qualification provides an opportunity to study a range of topics from three main areas: child care and education, babysitting and parenting responsibilities.

How you will learn

You will be allocated your own study pack and have a personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities designed to reinforce the learning process and demonstrate your knowledge. This will mainly consist of a written assessment for each unit, which will be assessed by the tutor as well as two simple observation exercises. (This course is also available online)

Where could this course take you?

It does not qualify you to work but does support you in preparing for your ‘next steps’ either in training or moving towards work. The Level 2 Certificate for Children and Young People’s Workforce or the Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care.

What costs will you incur?

No costs incurred.
