Who is this course for?
This qualification is designed for learners who want an introduction to art and design. You will explore a range of materials, techniques and processes and acquire a number of technical skills and knowledge.
What do you need to apply for the course?
There are no formal entry requirements, as this is a beginner’s course and should appeal to adults 19+ with a range of abilities.
What are the key things you'll learn?
Over the duration of this course you will develop skills and knowledge of creative materials, techniques and processes used in art and design. Through experimentation and development work you will build a varied portfolio of work using a range creative techniques.
The mandatory units of the certificate include the following modules:
- Explore available resources to develop basic art and design skills
- Explore and develop art and design ideas creatively
- Create, present and review final art and design item(s)
How you will learn
You will attend weekly sessions, where you will primarily learn through practical lessons in well-appointed studios. You will develop your ideas, through project based assignments, which will include some critical/contextual studies.
You will create a portfolio of work, which is submitted for your final assessment and you will be advised on how to present and collate this work as part of the course.
There is no formal examination but you will have small amounts of homework throughout.
Where could this course take you?
On successful completion of the course, you could progress to NCFE Level 2 in Creative Craft.
Following Level 2 you could progress to a Foundation Diploma in an Art and Design or BTEC Art and Design.
