Who is this course for?
The course aims to build on the foundation skills developed in NCFE Level One Drawing and Painting and introduce you to creative enterprise opportunities within Art & Design. You will develop your ability sufficiently over the course to achieve a Level 2 Certificate in Creative Craft (Art & Design) qualification from the NCFE.
What do you need to apply for the course?
Entry requirements are the successful completion of an NCFE Level 1 Award in Drawing and Painting and you should possess a general interest in employment opportunities in Art & Design. This specialised course should appeal to adults 19+ with a range of abilities.
What are the key things you'll learn?
This specific area of study will require you to investigate creative enterprise and employment opportunities in the creative industries. It will also allow you to create visual images through the exploration and manipulation of paint, graphic materials and associated processes. The mandatory units of the certificate include the following modules;
- Use materials, tools and equipment to develop craft techniques (3 credits).
- Investigate creative enterprise and employment opportunities (5 credits).
- Develop craft ideas (4 credits).
- Create, present and evaluate final art and design item (3 credits).
Initially you will explore creative enterprise and employment opportunities. Additionally you will study the formal elements of drawing and painting, which will enable you to develop a variety of work from first hand observation to the realisation of final outcomes for exhibition or sale.
How you will learn
Primarily you will learn through practical lessons in well-appointed studios and a personal research project into creative enterprise. The course will be delivered through a series of structured projects using a wide variety of drawing and painting techniques. You will develop your ideas, through project based assignments, which will include some critical/contextual studies.
There is no formal examination to the course, but to achieve the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Creative Craft (Art & Design) qualification, you are required to submit a portfolio of coursework for assessment. Staff will advise and assist you on the presentation, collation and review of this work as part of the course.
Where could this course take you?
Having successfully completed your NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Creative Craft (Art & Design) (30 weeks) you can progress to BTEC Art & Design, Access to HE, or Foundation Diploma in Art & Design.
What costs will you incur?
Course fee – £200.
Basic materials including paper will be provided. You will be required to bring your own sketchbook or display file to present your level two certificate coursework.
