Who is this course for?
This is an introductory level course for those who are new to stitched, printed or constructed textiles.
You do not need previous knowledge of using a sewing machine.
What do you need to apply for the course?
There are no formal entry requirements, as this course is for those who have never used a sewing machine before or have just made simple pieces.
What are the key things you'll learn?
You will explore ways of producing stitched, printed and constructed textiles as well as using the design process to produce finished pieces of textile work.
How you will learn
You will attend weekly sessions, working through a series of practical experiments and techniques, building on each new skill.
You will create a portfolio of work, which is submitted for your final assessment. There is no formal examination but you will have small amounts of homework throughout the course.
Where could this course take you?
On successful completion of the course, you could progress to Level 2 Creative Crafts.
Following Level 2 you could progress to a Foundation degree in a textiles or surface design related course.
It could also give you the skills to set up your own textile craft business
What costs will you incur?
You will be advised at the beginning of the course about the basic sewing items you will need and a file for keeping your written work or a sketchbook to create a journal.
