Sunderland College is the only independent North East Testing Centre for IELTS. Accredited by the British Council we offer both the Academic and General tests.  All modules of the test – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking will held on the same day.

Who needs IELTS

Non-native English speakers need IELTS in order to pursue academic study in the UK, an IELTS test score is requested by most British colleges and universities.

IELTS is recognised by employers in the UK and necessary for some non-native English speakers who want to work in positions such as doctors, nurses, dentists and pharmacists.

Anyone including native English speakers, who may be required to confirm an official IELTS score in order to seek immigration to Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Before registering for an IELTS test please note the following important information:-

On 20 February 2015, the UK government announced important changes to Secure English Language Tests (SELT) for visa purposes. If you make a visa application to stay or move to the UK you need to be aware of changes made by United Kingdom Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System and is jointly owned by British Council; IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment. IELTS scores are accepted by over 9,000 recognising organisations and delivered in 900+ locations worldwide.

IELTS is designed to assess the language abilities of those who wish to work or study in countries where English is the primary language and is the most popular and most reliable English Language testing system.
