How to apply for an IELTS test

You can apply on-line for an IELTS test through the British Council website, please follow these instructions:-

1. Enter your personal data into the candidates’ online database in the registration system.  Make sure your email address is correct as this is how we will contact you.

2. Upload a clearly legible copy of your valid passport or national identity card (EU nationals only) using the document upload facility on the application page.  If you would rather send the document by email, please email to ieltstest@sunderlandcollege.ac.uk or post a copy to the address below

3. Pay the test fee of £155.00

Test fees can be paid by any of these methods:
• Cash (use secure mail)
• Postal order (available from the Post Office) made payable to City of Sunderland College
• Cheque – made payable to City of Sunderland College
• Download a Debit/Credit card payment form here and return with your application

Please note payment and documentation must be received within 3 days of registration – if you have registered but not paid or provided copies of your documentation within 3 days your application will be cancelled.

If the test you are applying for is less than one week away please contact the centre within 24 hours to arrange payment.

We will only send confirmation of your test date after we have checked the identification documents provided and payment has been made.

On test days you must bring the same identification you used when completing your application form. You will not be allowed to take the test without this identification.

Special Arrangements
In order to ensure that the language ability of all test takers is assessed fairly and objectively, IELTS provides a comprehensive service for test takers who have special requirements.  If you have a permanent disability, such as a visual, hearing or specific learning difficulty which requires special arrangements please contact us directly to discuss your requirements.  Any special arrangements agreed are in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ).

Results will be available 13 calendar days after the test – TRF’s will be posted on this day to the address stated on your application form and a preview is available online at https://ielts.britishcouncil.org/CheckResults.aspx

You will need to make a note of your candidate number on the test day as you will be asked for this.

Cancelling or Transferring your Exam
If you cancel your test or request a transfer five weeks or more before the test date, the test centre will charge an administration fee of £25.00. If you cancel your test within five weeks of the test date you will not be eligible for a refund unless you can prove illness or serious cause. You will need to complete a Request for Refund or Test Date Transfer Form and attach medical/supporting evidence.
