This qualification is suitable for anyone who wants to gain a more in-depth understanding of the roles of information, advice and guidance workers. It will support progression to further training such as broader competence based or industry specific information, advice or guidance qualifications required to work in the sector.
This course is designed for learners aged 19 or over, who wish to develop their knowledge of information, advice or guidance. It is ideal for those who are already employed in an information or advisory role, who wish to study the programme as part of their own continuous professional development or for those who wish to improve their understanding to increase their opportunities of finding work.
Anyone wishing to undertake the certificate should be aged 19 or over. You will need to have at least a Level 1 qualification in literacy as you will be expected to write answers for assessment purposes.
If this is your first full Level 2 qualification you will be asked to complete a declaration form.

The qualification aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the concepts and practices of information, advice and guidance. It is designed to provide you with the essential knowledge required to carry out every day and more complex tasks, such as signposting and referrals, providing information, advice and guidance to schools, colleges and groups whilst understanding how to manage information effectively.
You will explore specialist advice work over a range of practices, housing, debt and employment along with developing an understanding of refugee, immigrant and asylum information, advice and guidance. You will analyse your personal and communication skills and demonstrate how these can be developed.
You will be added to our Equal platform, where you will be able to access all the learning resources and assessments to complete. You will be allocated your own personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities designed to reinforce the learning process and demonstrate your knowledge. Your personal tutor will then assess your work and provide you with constructive feedback for each unit.
This course is available paper-based too on request.
You should be able to work at a Level 1 in Functional Skills.
This is a 16-week course that requires your own time management for study. You will be given submission dates to keep you focused on the 16-week timeframe.

This course aims to equip you with the practical skills needed to successfully convey information, advice or guidance in a wide range of situations and sectors. The course covers a variety of key topics that are crucial to providing an excellent and efficient service, including questioning, listening and communicating techniques, the importance of confidentiality and how to overcome barriers.
This course is split into five manageable units:
Unit 1: Information, advice or guidance in practice
Unit 2: Developing interaction skills for information, advice or guidance
Unit 3: Signposting and referral in information, advice or guidance
Unit 4: Information, advice or guidance in context
Unit 5: Skills for advice providers

The minimum age requirement is 19 years old.
After successfully completing the course, you will be able to progress on to further study in the field or other distance learning programmes. This may add to your own continuous professional development, which may improve your career prospects.
