Sunderland College Catering and Travel and Tourism students have recently visited Edinburgh for a two night residential.
The purpose of the trip was to give students the opportunity to visit a UK capital city, experience Scottish culture and local cuisine. They experienced travelling on different types of transport and staying in a hotel away from home, for some students this was their first experience of staying away from home.
Whilst on the trip, students were able to sample the Edinburgh food markets, popular land marks within the city such as Edinburgh castle, Grey friars Bobby and Princes Street Gardens.
The learners embraced the street performers as well as local people playing the bagpipes. In their own time they also went for group meals to different restaurants as well as other attractions such as Edinburgh Vaults, Edinburgh dungeons etc.
Rachel Dinning, Sunderland College Travel and Tourism Lecturer said:
“This was a great opportunity for our students to experience a bustling capital city. It was great for them to experience some new things so they can use this time away to aid their skills and development back in the classroom.”
Based on their experience in Edinburgh, the students will now produce an assignment on the destination which will be part of their course work.
